SFN Adapter

SFN-D140V1 can enhance coverage and spectrum utilization in a Single Frequency Network (SFN) by synchronizing cells both in time and frequency terms. These profits are achieaved by inserting functions and parameters such as Time and Frequency references.

The SFN-D1401 receives a 1PPS time reference and a 10MHz clock reference from GPS receiver and computes time and transmitter configuration information such as power and signal processing parameters to build the Mega frame Initialization Packet (MIP) inserted into the MPEG-2 transport stream. Also, the MIP block restamps the Program Clock Reference (PCR) information of each program and adapts bit rate of all transmitters in the network.

Applications

SFN-D140V1 is used for synchronization of single frequency networks in Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) and Digital Video Broadcasting handheld (DVB-H) systems.

In a single frequency network, all transmitters broadcast the same data at the same frequency band and time. In fact, transmitters adjust their time, frequency, power, and other operational modes by evaluating the parameters inserted in MIP packets and time and frequency references received from an external GPS receiver. SFN-D140V1 is compatible with EN 300 744, TS 101 191, and TR 101 290 precisely.
